Change a Light Change Michigan Campaign
October 1 - City of Lansing, City Hall. Michigan Public Service Commissioner Monica Martinez, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, East Lansing Mayor Sam Singh and Lansing Board of Water & Light’s General Manager, J. Peter Lark launched the Change a Light Change Michigan campaign by participating in a press and public event at the Lansing City Hall.
Nearly 2,000 Michigan consumers purchased energy saving CFLs as a result of the Change a Light Change Michigan campaign and many more received the ENERGY STAR Change a Light message.
The 15,260 bulbs purchased at local Ace Hardware stores will reduce Mid Michigan’s energy consumption by 4,669,560 kilowatt-hours (kWh) over the life of the bulbs. These energy savings are equivalent to:
- $352,552 in direct savings off consumer electric bills.
- Enough electricity to power 467 Michigan homes for one year.
- Preventing 2,335 tons of coal from being imported and burned.
- Preventing 5,603 tons CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.
- Removing 754 cars from the road.
